A native of the Willamette Valley, George was born and raised in Salem, Oregon. He is a bee keeper, a certified Master Gardener, certified Master Woodlands Manager and a full time journeyman electrician. He married his childhood sweetheart and together they stay plenty busy on the farm.
Our journey began in December 2011 when we purchased a jar of honey on a Christmas tree farm ran by Terry Adams. Being curious with the idea of creating a self sufficient food source, George asked Terry about the bees and his response was one he will never forget "you don't want to keep bees". That day was the start of a friendship and mentor-ship that continues to this day. Terry has been instrumental in teaching George everything about hands on bee keeping.
From 2016-2020 George was the bee keeper for Rogue Brewery at the farm in Independence, Oregon. If you have had the Rogue Honey Kolsch you may have had a taste of the honey produced by the bees at the farm. At the beginning of 2020 Rogue Brewery discontinued their bee program. Woodward Farms adopted those bees and transferred them to one of our other locations to produce more great honey.
George invests hundreds of hours into taking care of millions of bees. Over the years he has done many swarm collections as well as starting new hives each season. His love for the bee is obvious when you see him working with the bees, whether to collect a swarm or working at the many locations he has hives at.
George continues to give back to the community through public speaking, hands on demonstrations, classes and on site visits. He especially enjoys talking to our youth on the importance of the honey bee.
